Empower Students & Teachers to Reach for the Stars

From April 1 – May 7, the Cal Coast Cares Foundation invites you to join the Spark Success movement by visiting your local Cal Coast branch to purchase a paper star in the amount of $1, $5, or $10 and/or by clicking here. Paper stars that are purchased will be displayed in-branch throughout the campaign. With your help, we hope to raise $13,000 to support student scholarships and educator grants in San Diego and Riverside counties. All donations made from April 1-May 7 will be matched dollar for dollar up to $5,000 by California Coast Credit Union.

Founded in 2015, the mission of the Cal Coast Cares Foundation¹ is to help local educators and students by providing grants for teachers and scholarships for current college students, college-bound high school seniors and foster students in San Diego and Riverside counties. All donations from Spark Success will go directly to funding the Cal Coast Cares scholarship and grant program.

I’m honored to be chosen as this means others have recognized my ambition, hard work and strong will to succeed. As a student planning to attend medical school with aspirations to become a surgeon, I’m thankful to represent Cal Coast as a recipient of this award!

As a person who experienced foster care and a professional who wants to better support foster youth, I decided to further pursue my education. With less than 1% of foster youth graduating with a graduate degree, I am honored to have been chosen as a recipient of the Cal Coast Scholarship. As a mother and community advocate, my hope is to be an example for other foster youth who want to pursue their education. I am beyond grateful for receiving this scholarship which will support my educational aspirations. I look forward to continuing my studies as a doctoral student at UCSD.

I am a firm believer that books are windows into the world and mirrors into ourselves, especially if we can find books that catch our interest. 7th grade is an especially critical year for students to explore themselves and the world around them as they grow into their own worldviews. As a founding 7th grade teacher, this grant will allow me to build a diverse and representative library that reflects student interests and will give them a wide array of topics and genres to find interest in. My students are so excited to help me pick out books for this library!

It will have a major impact in exposing young women to elements of STEM that are currently not addressed in our curriculum.
